Sing, Play, Rejoice (The Melody)

"Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of Joy." Psalms 33:3

Sounds like fun huh? All thru the Bible, music was used by God and His people in various way. In fact, the first song in the Bible is the song the Israelites sang after crossing the Red Sea. This story and this song is found in Exodus 15. It seems they were songwriters too!

There was also David who played his harp to soothe King Saul's jealous spirit.

Then in 2 Chronicles 20 Jehoshaphat was facing a battle with the Moabites and the Ammonites. They sought the Lord and followed his directions. Would you believe who was sent to face the army? The Praise Team!! What?!! While they were singing and worshipping saying "Praise the Lord" for his mercy endures forever" the Lord set their enemies against each other. This battle was won with Music!

Moving into the New Testament we find Paul and Silas in Jail. At midnight they were singing praises. Just like in our song "The Melody" this could definitely could have been one of those situations that "silenced the tune in their heart" However Paul and Silas didn't give in. At midnight they sang Praises and God sent an earthquake to open the prison doors. Let me tell ya, that is some Praise right there. I wonder what song it was?

I personally have experience God's power thru music. He has used songs many times to speak to me. In 2016 I was facing surgery for breast cancer. Along with the prayers, love and support of family, church family and friends I found myself making a playlist in my mind of songs that were powerful to keep in my thoughts to help me be at peace and remind me of the strength that God had given me to trust him with this. Jesus was and is my "sweet notes of peace"

God is definitely into hearing your song! He rejoices when we sing or play instruments for his glory. He delights in our songs of praise that flow from our hearts to His throne. Do you know that he sings over you. "The Lord your God in your midst, The mighty one, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness He will quiet you with his love. He will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17

Music takes us into his presence and bring Joy and fills us with peace. He is those "chords of harmony " "speaking to one another in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs , singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord" Ephesians 5:19

So let Joy break thru our songs! Let's keep making Melody in our hearts to the Lord so...….

Sing, Pray, Rejoice.
